Reporting Absence
To report your child’s absence, please telephone the school on 02392 466241 (option 1) or email attendance@hayling.hants.sch.uk
Absence Request Form
For all absences (other than illness), please complete the online absence request form:

Appointments
Wherever possible, please arrange medical appointments outside of school hours.
For appointments within school hours, evidence of the appointment must be provided in order that the absence can be authorised.
Only in exceptional circumstances can whole days be authorised for medical appointments – pupils are expected to attend school, where possible, either side of the appointment, in order to minimise absence from lessons.
Holidays
If at any time you wish to take your child out of school for any reason other than sickness you will need to complete an Absence Request Form.
In line with government legislation which came into effect on September 1st 2013, we are unable to authorise leave of absence for students during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Please be aware that taking your child out of school without permission may result in a Penalty Notice being issued.
Penalty Notices
The Hayling College may issue a Fixed Penalty Notice to each parent/carer who fails to ensure the regular and punctual attendance of their child, or takes their child out of school without the absence being authorised (e.g a holiday).
Currently, a penalty notice is £60 per parent/carer if paid within 21 days. If a penalty notice is not paid within 21 days, the penalty increases to to £120 per parent/carer if paid within 28 days.
A Penalty Notice can be issued once a child has 5 days unauthorised absence, (10 sessions) or are late to school for 10 or more sessions, within 100 school days.
Exams
GCSE exam dates are sent to parents via email, published on our website and an exam timetable is issued to pupils.
Should a pupil fail to attend a previously published exam, parents/carers can be issued with a Penalty Notice and also charged for the cost of the exam.
