How does Hayling College monitor and support online safety?
You as parents/carers must be aware of the stance the school has taken regarding Cyber Bullying and Crime, especially if this is active during school hours.
College staff are trained to identify this type of incidence and we are expanding this through a Cyber Crime Ambassadors Team, which will comprise of Teaching and Support staff, CEOPS ambassador, behaviour lead and opportunities for pupil voice. This will encourage pupils to help support their peers and teachers to understand and raise awareness of their lived experiences.
Mr Mitchell is our CEOPs Ambassador whose role is to continually review the curriculum and provide further training, along with Mr Wells who monitors reports of online risky behaviour that are reported and require intervention.
The computer system used by the school is closely scrutinised and any areas where searches are considered to be inappropriate or of concern are immediately flagged up and addressed.
Child Exploitation
Exploitation of a child starts through the process of grooming. This is when an individual or group of people build trust and a relationship with a young person in order to get them to do what they want. The individual or group or people then coerce, manipulate and deceive a child into doing what they want, in exchange for something the child wants or needs.
Below are some basic principles to help parents/carers understand and identify any changes in their child’s behaviour.
