At The Hayling College, every part of the school day contributes to our aim for pupils to be Happy, Healthy and High Performing.
Our College day combines an ambitious academic curriculum with tutor time, personal development, assemblies, pastoral support and enrichment opportunities. We want pupils not only to achieve well academically, but also to develop confidence, independence, positive relationships and the wider skills and experiences that will prepare them for their next steps.
The College day begins at 8.20am and finishes at 2.50pm. Staff are on duty from 8.10am to welcome and supervise pupils. The normal College week is 32 hours and 50 minutes.
Tutor Time and Assemblies
Tutor time is an important part of the College day and has been developed further for 2026/27.
Tutors are a key point of contact for pupils and families and help pupils feel known, supported and connected to the College community.
Our tutor programme provides regular opportunities for pupils to focus on areas beyond their subject curriculum, including personal development, reading and literacy, careers and aspirations, attendance and readiness to learn, current issues, pupil voice and preparation for the next stage of education or employment.
Assemblies complement this programme by bringing year groups and the wider College community together to explore important themes, celebrate achievement and reinforce our values and expectations.
This forms part of our wider Personal Development programme, which brings together PSHE/RSE, tutor time, assemblies, careers, enrichment, leadership opportunities and pastoral support.

Beyond the Classroom – Enrichment
Learning at The Hayling College does not finish when the final lesson ends.
We believe that enrichment is an important part of a young person's education. Pupils are encouraged to take part in clubs, sport, music and performance, competitions, trips and visits, careers activities, pupil leadership, house activities and other opportunities that develop their interests, confidence and skills.
Our wider Hayling Experience provides opportunities throughout Years 7–11, including enrichment activities, school productions, sports teams, careers weeks, house competitions, Activities Week, pupil leadership and other experiences.
We encourage every pupil to get involved and make the most of the opportunities available to them.
