Hayling College is proud of its small but growing PTA, particularly as very few secondary schools manage to sustain one.
PTAs can contribute a great deal financially, enabling the school to buy things it wouldn’t normally have at the top of its shopping list – offering pupils extended opportunities and fabulous memories to take away with them. One of the main sources income for the PTA is via Hi5 events which are co-ordinated with the other 4 schools on the Island. Recently the PTA has been able to support the building of over 15 new benches within school to provide additional outdoor seating, provided funding to raise awareness of LGBT and supplied over 200 new dictionaries for the Modern Foreign Language department.
Parents, guardians and grandparents often feel that they have done their bit in their primary schools and become reluctant to join in at secondary level. They think that with so many pupils in the school there will be plenty of people to get involved. Sadly this isn’t the case and there are actually very few parents, teachers or friends currently involved with secondary school PTAs.
The PTA meets every couple of months mainly to discuss fund raising ideas and how the spend the money raised by Hi5 and other events. These meetings will be advertised on the school website and there is a Facebook page as well. Why not come along to our next meeting and see how you can get involved. Everybody is welcome.
