Update from Mr Rainford 01.04.2020

COVID-19 College Closure UPDATE Information Wednesday 1st April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you very much once again for all your support and feedback over that last few days. I do hope you are all keeping safe and well.

We are now in our second full week of schools closure, and from the feedback I have been receiving from staff, in and out of College, the vast majority of students are now into Home Learning routines and producing some excellent work. Thank you very much for making the, sometimes difficult decisions, and supporting the youngsters. Please do maintain this perseverance as it should pay dividends when schools reopen. If you do need further help/support here please do contact the College using the email information below.

As we approach, what would have been in normal circumstances, the two-week Easter break, staff will need to take their usual two weeks off teaching, as per DFE guidelines. Therefore, from Saturday 4th April to Sunday 19th April, staff will not be setting, monitoring and feeding back on regular weekly Home Learning tasks. Normal service will resume and continue from Monday 20th April. Staff, however, will be setting longer learning tasks for the duration of the break.

The College will remain open during the Easter two weeks, including the two Bank holidays, for students of Keyworker and Vulnerable families. Staff have volunteered to facilitate a two- week learning/enrichment experience different to the Home Learning tasks they currently receive. We are in the process of finalising activates which should include Art, Design Technology, Growing Together work and PE. If you qualify as a Keyworker/Vulnerable family and have not done so yet, please do let us know of your intentions and any support we can help you with.

As I write this letter, I was rather hoping I would have further detailed information, as promised by the Government, regarding GSCE 2020 Examination grading and, therefore, be able to inform you about the next key steps moving forward for the youngsters. This information has not come into schools as yet. Given that I wanted to inform you as soon as possible of the Easter break arrangements, I will write specifically on this GCSE topic as soon as I have the information. Thank you for your patience here.

A reminder that The College website, ‘Home’ page, provides links to all college information and a direct link to the government COVID-19 information and guidance for schools. Free

School Meals are available for collection, each day, from 10.30am at reception. I will write to all FSM families today regarding government support and new arrangements.

Please do continue to contact the college via admin@hayling.hants.sch.uk . This method has been much appreciated, along with contacting staff directly using college email addresses. These can be found on the College Website.

Thank you for all your support. Please do take care

Yours faithfully,

Colin Rainford
